If you’ve ever experienced a life crisis, you would know that one of the first things to suffer is your work, be it at a job, or at school. For the disadvantaged kids we work with, falling behind is inevitable, which is why we realised that counselling alone was not enough.

To help re-establish their self-worth and self-esteem, tutoring and mentoring are crucial. When a child feels like they are a failure, they have no motivation to better themselves, recover, and find their unique place in the world. What tutoring and mentoring offers is much more than academic support, it’s the feeling of getting back on track and having someone who cares and is there to help.

We are currently experiencing a shortage of volunteer tutors and mentors!

If you are a retired teacher, studying education or have experience with teaching children, this is a program for you! For more information or to get involved, contact us.

Since the launch of the SCWQ Tutoring and Mentoring program, we have been receiving excellent feedback from teachers, parents, and also from our tutor. This program is designed to help “fill the gaps” for children who have missed out on schooling as a result of trauma or troubling circumstances at home. Tailored lessons are designed after conversations with the child’s teacher, to ensure maximum effectiveness and relevance. We look forward to expanding this program over the coming years to assist more and more children in SEQ.
